Reliance offers handsets at $19
By Andrew | May 2, 2007

Reliance Communications Ltd. Seems to be bothered about the lower income group and not only concerned as the group is planning to bring out handsets at almost half the prevailing prices.
This communication giant will sell three handsets priced between Rs777 rupees and Rs888 rupees against the earlier Rs1, 500 for the cheapest phone available in the market.
Besides the efforts of many retailers, who stepped on to sell recycled handsets below Rs1, 000, it couldn’t manage to offer quality support and after sales service to buyers.
“We are confident of extending the benefits of mobility to an entirely new segment of the population in metropolitan cities as well as rural hinterland,” S.P Shukla, president of Reliance Communications’ mobility business, said.
