Sharp Corp takes the opportunity to launch the world’s thinnest and lightest LCD TVs that ensures picture quality. Against Sharp’s old model 52-inch LCD TV that was 81mm thick, this new avatar is just 20mm thick.
Along with thickness, the weight of the prototype is 5 kgs less than the old model and weighs 25 kgs. Consuming almost half the electricity, the set displays a 100,000:1 distinction ratio and delivers five times more vibrant pictures than conservative models.
With no information about the price tag, plans are to start the production of these ultra-thin sets at its new LCD factory in Sakai, western Japan. The factory will be online and in full-process by March 2010. Sharp is considering Sony’s organic light-emitting diode TVs as it tough competitor as its features are also at par. Sony’s set will be launched by the end of the year.
