The new PS3 2.40 firmware should be available tomorrow, July 2. The new firmware should include XMB access in-game and the system of trophies.

The XMB (CrossMediaBar) will, during the game, check the status of your friends, send and read messages, changed some settings, launch a game installed on the HDD without going through the Start menu, go directly to the viewer photos or read mp3 while continuing your game.
The trophy system, as for the Xbox360, you will win trophies to each of your success in a game, and will be visible on the profile of players. With declines in 4 different categories: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

For a demonstration of the XMB, make a turn on the blog American Playstation.
