By Cheryl | August 21, 2008

openframe iphone home phone

Enough of cell phones, lets talk land lines now. Yes, it definitely sounds berserk to mention land lines, when most of us are chucking them out for sleek cell phones and chucking the old sleek cell phones for the latest iPhone!

What if you cross breed your boring land line with the all new jazzy iPhone. If not world class but quite a manageable iPhone look alike breed will definitely result out for sure. I’m not talking crap, but people at OpenPeak who designed the OpenFrame platform are once again ready to become the pioneers to give an iphone-y makeover to your home phone.

Open Peak is all set to manufacture a traditional home phone consisting of ‘OpenFrame’ (the small tablet that looks like a digital picture frame. The final outcome will be soon ready with telecoms to be supplied to consumers at a price about $200 to $300.

And if you are already worrying about the applications, let me tell you that just like with iPhone, the company will also encourage developers to create third-party programs complementing the OpenFrame including the calendar, local weather & news and even internet radio. Hmmm…seems happy days are here again for the home phone!

iBasket, futuristic washing machine: Doesn’t need a human touch

By Cheryl | August 20, 2008

ibasket automated washing machine

Failing to manage laundry and piles of dirty clothes is one of the many daily chores that are left unattended by so many busy people, whose jobs doesn’t leave them with time to take care of them. So with a view to offer a little help to such souls Guopeng Liang brings iBasket – an automated washing machine.

By making it to the top nine Electrolux Design Lab ’08 finalists, iBasket is sure to catch some fancy with the laundry maniacs.

With a transparent cylindrical body made of acrylic glass, engineered plastic and recycled aluminum, the washing machine is pre-programmed to start off the washing spree only after collecting a specific weight of clothes. Once done. It washes the dirty lot for a selected duration, while the built-in air refresh system gets of the smelly odors. And once the washing is over, the LEDs fixed at the bottom flashes out to give you the signal. Not just this, it will also give you a ‘work done’ message on your cell phone and computer via a wireless so that the busy bee that you are, don’t forget that your cleaning business is done! We hope the concept gets real too soon!

Not so great Kayak speakers

By Cheryl | August 20, 2008

sonance_kayak_speakers

As far as I understand a ‘Kayak’ is a small boat but the ‘Kayak Speakers’ as they call them don’t resemble a boat at all still christened like that…any answers?

Any way as they say, what’s in a name? Let’s get ahead with other specs of the speakers from the house of Sonance. With quite a unique design they can be a sure shot attention grabber in a living room. They are designed by the minds at NACSound and boast to offer stereophonic sound from a single speaker with the help of an acoustic reflector suspended in the center. (What’s new?) The speakers churn out 60W of sound with a sensitivity of about 86dB. Talk about placing them and you get the liberty of installing them horizontally or vertically as per your requirements.

Not very great features and a little cool looks seem to les to pay a whopping amount of $2900 for the Kayak features…what do you say?

Design attack: Boynq Swing USB Hub

By Cheryl | August 20, 2008

boynq_swing_ usb HUb

USB hub is the need of the hour when so many attachments and applications are supposed to be worked in a single PC. But I just don’t like those too technical USB hubs. But the all new Boynq Swing USB Hub ended my search of a good looking yet functional USB hub. This one in all black is not only sleek but spacious too. Boynq can suspend as many as four USB drives under its graceful arch.

If that was all about looks, the features are no less competitive including DC power for multiple high-powered USB devices and offers protection at the same time.

A cool combo of a beautiful design and technological functionality makes Boynq Swing USB Hub a welcome break on any desk. The Newton’s cradle like USB hub can be yours for somewhere around $25.

Tiny Miny USB cell phone charger

By Cheryl | August 19, 2008

USB cell phone charger

I had all the reasons to write about this gadget! It’s small, it’s portable and above all it’s highly functional. We are talking about this tiny and lightweight USB cell phone charger. It’s not a cell phone charger exactly but a battery charger to be more precise. Quite easy to cally than those bulky chargers this one is highly compact.

All you need to do with this charger is that just take the battery out of your cell phone and fix it into the slot available in this charger and let it infuse life in your cell phone. This one is good enough to adopt high capability switch power supply with efficient transforming and also extends the stand time and longevity of your battery. And the best part about this USB charger is that it can charge almost all models of cell phones unlike the other chargers that are good enough for only one kind of phone.

The only practical drawback that I could find in the USB cell phone charger was that the cell phone will remain switched off all the while it is on charging mode rest seems cool!
