Imagine how cool it would be to alert oneself about an earthquake about to occur and also know how big the quake can really get. GraGraph is a device, which enables us to know the intensity of a quake on the Richter scale right from 3 to 10, but it’s not a predictor of earthquakes that’s going to occur. The device helps us to brace ourselves before any damage occurs. This device consists of an in built LCD clock, an alarm and a night-light. The GraGraph also records seismic activity where in the frequency or magnitude of any earthquake activity in a given area.
This Japanese product works on 4 AA batteries. One definitely would be overwhelmed as it provides an insight into the impending danger. GraGraph is a functional and efficient device, which costs a mere $185. If you can’t find it online, you can always buy one from a Japanese dealer. Meanwhile, the device may also help in creating awareness among people who seem to take earthquakes for granted, and quakes can occur anywhere, even in non-seismic zones. You could get this product online here.

People, young and old, have the bad habit of slouching instead of sitting in an upright and good posture. What results from this could be many ailments including back pain, knee joint pain, neck pain etc. It could also result in a lot of stress, as bad posture is directly proportional to the stress you feel while you are sitting. Having said all this, we must say that now there is an intelligent device that warns you when you are sitting in a bad posture and reminds you to not slouch.
iPosture is one such device that vibrates intermittently when you slouch and stops only when you sit properly. It happened last Saturday in the incredible space NAVE the first edition of the event Descolagem, which was very well organized by Bob Largman and Lia Amancio, and should happen every two weeks.
The theme of this first Descolagem was “digital culture and the impact of technology”, and among the speakers / participants were Lucius Abbondati, entrepreneurs Fabio Seixas and Marco Gomes and Ronaldo Lemos of FGV-RJ and iCommons, plus a very special participation in Video of the genial professor Silvio Meira of CESAR (Center for Advanced Studies and Systems of Recife), which then interacted with these via Skype.
The Descolagem was moderated by my friends Bob Largman and Cris Dias. In addition to all that were in NAVE, the event was also accompanied by people from all over Brazil through a video transmission. The Wi-Fi connection was excellent, allowing the audience covering the event live, writing in their blogs or twitter, and putting the photos on Flickr.
The NAVE is a project of the Institute Hi Future, and is composed of the State College Jose Leite Lopes, the factory of Digital Culture (centre-research) and the power of Expression (space for exhibitions and seminars).
The place is striking, and deserves our applause for offering prospects for those who most need. These are projects like this that give new hope for the future of education in our country, whose biggest problem is lack of information and preparation for the labour market. Apart from revolutionary to attend this event, even had the pleasure to host my friend Lucia Freitas of Brazil Ladybug, who came from Sao Paulo to participate in only Descolagem. At the end of the event, there was a protest against the law of cybercrimes, which might end up with the freedom of the Internet in Brazil, but this already subject to another post.

IOGEAR’s new release, GearJuice Rescue Charger. TV, mobile phones, digital cameras, mini-USB port for portable devices equipped with a charger. 23 x23×66mm and size is pretty small. IOGEAR said, for example, about 15 minutes of cellular phone conversation equivalent to respond to the charge. So no big deal even if, in fact useful item. When we have put in a big help for sure.
