By Cheryl | August 5, 2008

Looking forward to replace furniture at your home with something that’s not just new and innovative but speaks of your personality as well? Get Front Design at work. They aim to add a new dimension to customized furniture.

How? They just ask you to let your imagination go on a creative spree and draw the design/shape of the chair or for that matter any piece of furniture the way you want it to be ‘in the air’ and they’ll give the furniture a shape furniture on a digital screen. This happens when you draw sketches on virtual memory and they get recorded onto a digital screen with the help of Motion Capture technology. This creative procedure leaves you with the option of altering, changing and even playing with your creations till you are not absolutely satisfied with the final outcome, which will be definitely be better than what you drew roughly with your hands. Sounds cool and pretty interesting too…specially for those who always look forward for a touch of their own identity in every part of their home.

Gift of nanotechnology: Invisible carpet

By Cheryl | July 29, 2008

Invisible carpet, nanotechnology

I had always heard the stories of the flying carpet and at the same time was sure that it was possible strictly in fairytales. But it seems the scientists at the Imperial College of London are all set to materialize the fairytales. No, they are not inventing a carpet that could fly, but for sure they are tying to conjure up a carpet that can make you appear as if flying as it gets invisible in visible light.

They have almost developed, what is called an invisible carpet, which comes to for as a successful cloaking device that provides complete invisibility unlike others.

Using metamaterials, which channel light in a way that is less than the wavelength of light that creates a mirage of invisibility using nanotechnology. Materials like silicon and silica will be used to make this carpet as they are ideal to create a physical gradient. Though just a concept till now, but it is definitely a move in the right direction to materialize the fantasy of flying in air on an invisible carpet.

The so-much-different concept has left us flabbergasted. It resembles Harry Potter kinda sinister way of execution and its hidden displays animates so often altering among a chronometer, magnifying glass, mirror, compass, news box, phone, media player, and TV. This communication device designed by Timofej Gorlov managed to reach at the first position at the Tancher design competition. They say the display screen comes from internal electronics and conveyed from the six built-in cameras.

Magic Mirror Concept Cell Phone

This device is capable of reading your lip movement and identifying your verbal instructions, for which the credit goes to the cameras and machinery. The base of the device is a glass frame that produces delusion, thereby adding to the shifting in the internal space of displays.
