90% of the netbooks that are sold have Windows XP

The people of Toshiba and Acer revealed that 90% of purchases being made of their netbooks are made with Windows XP instead of with their equivalent in Linux. Besides Dell also endorsed this and said that the percentage they sell is about the same. And it seems that many people who buy them have problems with Linux, because the rate of return of these computers is much higher than those with Windows XP.

Acer and DisplayLink announce 22-inch LCD monitor

Acer and DisplayLink announced their latest 22-inch monitor today. This USB computer LCD depends on the CPU to run instead of a graphics chipset, but does support various 3D functions, surprisingly, like Windows Vista Aero Glass interface. This new monitor measures in at 22-inches and sports a 1680 x 1050 resolution. It also has the DL-160 network display chip from DisplayLink. This makes it so you can connect up to six of these monitors to a single computer. This one is true plug and play.

This afternoon, Acer Japan has decided to unveil its new UMPC powered by a ATOM, the Aspire One. Available in white or black, the Aspire One board an N270 Atom processor (1.60 GHz), 1GB of RAM (512MB on board), a screen 8.9 “WSVGA with backlit by LED lighting, a Webcam 0.3Mpix , 120GB HDD, Wifi B / G, a memory card reader, an Ethernet port for only 1.1 kg and a size of 249×170x29mm. Despite its beautiful design, it looks like many PC already turning on ATOM … Esperons therefore that the next UMPC ATOM bring something new.

Acer gave the US a rare minute addition to its Aspire desktop schedule. The X1200 is just in excess of a foot long at its largest dimension but fits in desktop machinery and expansion that would normally be unreasonable in its size. Up to a 2.6GHz Athlon 64 X2 is complemented by a GeForce 8200 for incorporated graphics as well as a PCI Express 2.0 slot that allows devoted video or other peripherals. Every system also fits 4GB of memory.

The all-black chassis also finds room for expansion that is left out even on larger systems, including a total of nine USB ports on the front and back, a 14-in-1 card reader, and FireWire.

Acer is distribution three dissimilar trim levels depending on tastes. A base edition ships with a 2.5GHz Athlon 64 X2, a 320GB hard drive, a DVD burner, and Windows Vista Home Premium in 64-bit form for $450; upgrading to the 2.6GHz processor adds $10 to the price, while a version of the same system with a 22-inch LCD and a 500GB drive boosts the price to $700.
