Asda launches disposable cell phone as cheap as $10
Posted in Cell phones on 30 April 2008

Cheap cell phones from ASDaNow that’s what I call really cheap. A cell phone for just $10! I doubt if even a pack of cigarettes come for that price. No, it’s not a kid phone, nor it is just an emergency calling phone, but a full fledged phone with decent features making it good enough to be called a cell phone.

Actually these $ 10 phones are being sold as ‘disposable cell phones’ by UK’s supermarket chain Asda. These are made specially to be disposed off and operate on standard pay-as-you-go tariffs. You can just grab one off the shelf, use it once and throw it away if you wanted. There are no hidden or extra costs. The models available are Nokia 1112 (pictured right) Sagem My212x, Sagem My220x and Sagem My150x.

Good for people who need a cell phone temporarily for any reason ranging from regular phone being lost or that they are in a country of some time.

Posted in Cell phones on 1 April 2008

mobile.jpg

There’s nothing new about the designer cell phone concept, it has been there for quite a while. But cell phone manufacturers keep the excitement levels high in the concept by feeding the design hungry users with some of the jazziest of designer cell phones. And the all new Cicarette box 668 cell phone is another addition to the rocking trail of designer cell phones. Taking the inspiration from a Marlboro cigarette box, the 668 comes to fore as a dual band GSM phone that offers the regular features innovatively packed inside a chic outer design.
Talk about the features and you’ll find a 1.8″ color LCD screen on one side of the box, while other features like an awesome MP4 & MP3 player and 3GP videos player find a place here. One can also surf the web via WAP, while there are two games loaded in it including the good old Tetris and Five in a row.
Quite an innovative design but I wonder if it will actually find some takes for gone are the days when being spotted with a cigarette pack in hands was considered fashionable by the new Gen. But still, you can gift it to a friend who is trying hard to quit smoking. (hope he takes it in good spirits).
So if you are all game to grab your Cicarette box 668, then let me tell you the price. It’s available for ₤69.41 in red or white colours.

O Kids -Kids Phone

If not pampering but over pampering your kid is on your mind this birthday, nothing can beat the Okid phone as a perfect gift option. We are saying this, what can be better than a gift that’s a cool combo of a chic mobile phone with a piece of your heart.

Got confused? We’ll help! The Okids phone is designed in a unique way to open up into a hearty shape. As your kid transforms the phone into the heart shape he’ll get his hands on a Tetris handheld game. This is truly a kids phone as it does away with the possibilities of kids dialing any numbers at it does not have a num pad altogether, instead the word “Mommy” comes automatically fed into it.

If your kid wants more, you can get his phone loaded with another game invented by a brilliant Russian. The game is good enough to tease his intelligence levels and challenge him to get into the playing mode.
Designed keeping in mind the needs of a 5-6 years old kid, the phone offers them only what they actually need –good amount of protection and loads of LOVE!

London pads poles to save those who text while walking
Posted in Cell phones, Gadget on 8 March 2008

padded-poles.jpg

Here comes a perfect example of government who works for people and thinks for its people. We are talking about the London government who has started off the work to pad up al the poles and lamp posts across the city?
Now before you ask the obvious question: Why the hell the government is doin that Let me tell you it’s only for the citizens of the city who keep banging their heads into poles while they are busy text-messaging on their mobile phones! As per statistics 1 out of 10 London texters have broken their heads, thanks to their texting instincts.
Good that the government is so damn concerned about its people, but I guess that’s sheer over pampering. Had this been the case in India, instead of those pads what would have come to the texter’s way was a BIG FINE. And that’s probably the right thing to be done with the careless souls who take pride in doing wrong things at wrong time.

I’m in full agreement with geekologie when they suggest to add sharp spikes to the poles. Atleast that bump in the head will keep them off from texting while walking and get extra cautious on roads or the next feature on the London roads will be nothing but padded cars…for texters bump there as well!

SIM card spy can read deleted messages
Posted in Gadget on 27 February 2008

sim_spy.jpg

I don’t understand who is the target audience of this SIM card Spy, that is adept in reading even the messages that have been deleted from a mobile phone. It seems to be a cool pick for parents who doubt their kids of hiding something from you as they play safe by deleting every SMS that they receive once it’s read.
Now, you can outsmart them by telling that messages can never get deleted for they are still stored in the sender’s/receiver’s cell phone and if not their, then even at that stage you can retrieve the deleted SMSes with the SIM card spy card.
All you’ll need to do is just fit the SIM card into the device and plug it into your computer port and simply take out all that you wanted –‘deleted messages!
Must say technology has actually taken leaps…poor kids…they won’t be able to keep their ‘I Love yous’ hidden any more.
Jokes apart, it can be a handy gadget for the spys as well.

Soft Phone: Futuristic cell phone made of ‘cotton’!
Posted in Gadget on 26 February 2008

Soft Phone

I opened the day with a futuristic concept, in the same vein comes the next find. I’m talking about a phone that different from the other phones in the material that goes to make it the ‘Soft Phone’!

Made not from plastic or metal but softest cotton, the cell phone will be soft and flexible enough to be squeezed with your hands. Though the phone is soft and light in appearance, but doesn’t go the compromise way when it comes to performance, features and power.

Designed by Qian Jiang, the soft phone is made out of electronic cellulose structures, which make a series of discs with electronic fabric stretched in between, which in turn give the phone its shape.

The phone uses a series of gestures to bring the phone in action. Like you need to squeeze it to hang up and touch to make inputs. The fine fibers are quite optically clear to take the signal and allow light energy to pass thru to display simple contextual menus.

Soft Phone

There’s more to it. Just unfurl the collapsible phone and there you have a QWERTY, while a tiny clip made in soft squeezable, stress reducing silica holds the cell antenna, battery, camera, and micro electronics are contained inside a tiny clip which itself is made of soft, squeezable, stress-reducing silica.

Only thing that I couldn’t trace in the phone was the receivers…do tell us if you spot it!

Liscio from Onyx: Just a fashion phone
Posted in Cell phones on 25 February 2008

Onyx

If you are planning to replace your old phone with something that’s not much when it comes to features but quite swanky to look at …then Onyx’s latest fashion phone – Liscio, can be a perfect pick for you.
The all black phone is a stunner packed in a chic small bod. It’s just 90mm long and 35mm wide, and is as light as 60 grams.
Coming to the features, Liscio comes with good old MP3 player, bluetooth and built-in radio, 128MB of inbuilt-memory which is expandable to upto 1 GB with a Micro SD card (it could have been more). Apart from this the phone also features a full color OLED display, but that’s also not much of an attraction as it’s just 1.10 inches
On the whole it’s indeed a fashion phone with great looks and average features that you can do with if ou are not a sucker for those high-tech applications in a phone.
Price: GBP 129.99.

Liquid fuel powered flask phone from NEC
Posted in Cell phones, High tech on 28 January 2008

necflaskbig.jpg

A perfect gadget to comment that cell phone manufacturers and designers are getting head over heals when it comes to coming out with an innovative wonder. The latest in the league of those hard to believe but true cell phones is this NEC Flask.
What goes into it to keep it ringing is no hard core battery like other usual mobile phones but a liquid fuel cell filled inside its flask like bod. The cell keeps working till the liquid is their as the liquid cell keeps draining away with the power. As far as the working of the phone goes, you can operate it with a funky touchscreen that features numbers and digits written all over it. Â
flasknec.jpg

Don’t know how will it work and also there’s no clue as to what will happen if the liquid leaks or the flask breaks ( you can expect all these mishaps, keeping in mind the frequency at which we bang, break or throw our cell phone). And also, the concept of a bottle like cell phone will be quite hard to digest for…isn’t?

Any way…let’s wait till it’s out. There are no details on info and other specifications apart from these pics in some real cool colours straight from NEC website and the fact that the phone is going to hit the market sometime in 2008.
