Here is something that may interest all the robotic suits fans out there. A new robotic suit aims to help disabled people move by reading brain signals and this would have far reaching benefits for the disabled and elderly as well. The device is known as the HAL or Hybrid Assistive Limb. It is a computerized suit, which comes with sensors and it, reads brain signals and directs limb movement through the skin.

It is operated by a 22-pound battery and is worn as a belt around the waist. A Japanese company Cyberdyne, will manufacture these suits and may cost $1,500 for a monthly rental fee. What it does is, it goes ahead and captures the brain signals and relays them to mechanical leg braces strapped to the thighs and knees, which then provide robotic assistance to people as they walk. It still is not known when and how the HAL will go on sale and what it’s pricing is going to be.

USB pregnancy kit

It seems the gadget world is all set t rule out the existence of medical tests from the profile of hospitals. Be it the ECG monitor or this unique home pregnancy test kit, both hint at the same.

Named as p-Teq, this one is a USB based pregnancy test kit.
Just like the regular pregnancy test kits, even with this one you need to pee on the absorbent strip available at one end and plug it into your computer with the USB on the opposite side covered with a cap Once you do this the power from your USB port starts the electrospray ionization process, creating a spectrograph of the various masses for your analysis.

You can know if you are pregnant and if so, the estimated delivery date based on the concentration of hCG, hCG-H, and LH hormones in your urine.

p-Teq USB Pregnancy Test Kit scores over the traditional kits as it    can detect 5-50 mIU/mL, and will show you the exact concentration via its friendly onscreen interface, which takes place in the usual ones only with a level of 15-50 mIU/mL of hCG.
If you are pregnant the LCD display on the device will show a symbol of baby and if not then a no-baby symbol and even multiples. Not just this, it also gives you an Estimated Delivery Date based on the concentration of hCG, hCG-H, and LH in your urine.
Once you are done with it just take out the device from the computer and change the strip.

Modern Handheld Breast Pump
Posted in Baby-Gadget on 8 March 2008

Breast pump

Sorry to all those mommies who are cursing me for bringing this private gadget out in public. Guys I am not talking about any kinda mommy toy). But when you get to know Miji Rhoe’s concept of a breast milk pump, you’ll definitely if not thank but be happy for the fact that at last somebody is thinking about this important yet neglected area.

No doubts breast milk is best for baby’s health but think about the mommy who’s baby turns into a devil in no time when they show signs of teething and then come into picture the breast pumps. Most of which are ill-designed and ill-shaped, leaving the mommy pumping-pressing and pushing the most delicate area of her body, which requires utmost care just for the sake of the baby.

But, if this design of breast pump comes into picture, mommies will take a sigh of relief as it is design to eliminate pain to the fullest is convenient as well.

It features a nozzle pivots to hold the nipples that can be adjusted as per mommies comfort. Apart from this, it also offers 3 suction settings, for those hard times when you cannot get enough of it. (We hope it’s convenient in all the three settings).

We are talking about this carry around portable ECG device. called ECG primer 1.0.

This comes as a good news for heart patients as with this monitor at hand they would be able to keep a daily record of their heart, which was not possible when it comes to going to hospitals.
In a lay man’s language, the STM32 device is a small personal computer that does everything that your PDA or cell phone does, together with some extra functions like monitoring your ECG.
To get your ECG, all you need to do is, simply place your thumbs on the two copper foils available on each side of the STM32, which are the ECG electrodes. As you do this, you’ll see the ECG report of your heart scrawling in the LCD featured in the center , while the beep sound comes with every heartbeat.
Must say…it’s a great medical help for the heart patients and the best part is that it’s easy to use and pocket sizes so that you can keep your heart care close to your heart.
